Due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, we have decided to postpone this event. The new event date is March 24, 2021
This year we present author Mary Walton. Ms. Walton wrote A Woman’s Crusade: Alice Paul and the Battle for the Ballot. This is our centennial celebration of the 100th anniversary of the passage of the 19th Amendment.
Alice Stokes Paul secured her place in history as a suffragist. She fought both in Europe and in the United States to earn women the right to vote.
It’s not only History, it’s Herstory!
In this book, journalist and author Mary Walton tells the story of equal rights activist Alice Stokes Paul who led the final drive to pass the 19th amendment.
The 19th Amendment to the United States Constitution granted women the right to vote. This prohibited any United States citizen to be denied the right to vote based on gender, although many states took steps to exclude women of color. It was ratified on August 18, 1920 after a long struggle known as the women’s suffrage movement. Mary Walton will bring that struggle to life during her presentation!
Praise for A Woman’s Crusade, Alice Paul and the Battle for the Ballot
Mary Walton…has captured Paul’s fire, her slow burn in A Woman’s Crusade. This story is a reminder of the perseverance, the gall, the intelligence it took to obtain what now seems an inalienable right, an obvious pillar of any democracy.” —The Los Angeles Times
